The Beck Valve

The 'Beck Valve' was developed specifically for the Highland pipes. It is of the mushroom type, mounted on the base of blowpipe stock, using a tapered universal fitting that does away with the need for hemp. The "Beck Valve" gives an excellent delivery of air, is not dependant on a back pressure for closure, eases blowing and keeps a constant controllable pressure on the reeds. As the Beck Valve is not mounted on the blowpipe it's self then the blowpipe can take be bored out a little, again easing blowing. The Cowal Chanter

The Cowal Chanter is a practice chanter that is not much longer than a standard one. It has the full finger stretch of a GHB chanter without the clumsiness of a 'Long' practice chanter. There are three models, all in African blackwood. The Budget model with an aluminium ferule - £80 The Standard model with an aluminium ferule and button ring - £85 The Traditional model with imitation horn ferule and button ring - £85 As this is a quality instrument, every chanter is supplied with a Chris Apps reed ensuring that every one is pitched to 466 hertz ‘B flat’. The Beck Nyprene Bellows

Its traditional to use bellows for the small pipes in order to protect the very small reeds from moisture. The Beck Nyprene Bellows are state of the art using modern materials, including 3 Beck Valves (2 inlet and 1 outlet) and are efficient enough to blow Highland Pipes.
