The ‘Scottish Small Pipes’ (SSP) are the flagship of “Beckpipes” They have 3 drones; bass, tenor and baritone in a common stock, as per LPBS specification. My mouth blown small pipes are just the same, but with a mouth ‘blow-pipe’ and water trap and specially developed moisture system.
It is traditional to use bellows for small pipes, in order to protect the very small reeds from moisture. My bellows are state of the art. They come standard in ‘Celtic Green’, use modern materials including 2 “Beck Valves” and are efficient enough to blow Highland pipes. I use bellows because I can! and it is fun.
The sound of these pipes is comparable with the best, as their track record at LBPS contests will verify.
My mouth blown small pipes, defy all the need for bellows (Tradition excepted). The use of a cane chanter reed, Ezeedrones in the drones, ‘O’ ring joints, on the aluminium pipes ‘Ross bag’ and a good water trap and the specially developed moisture system, make for a very reliable bagpipe.
